KOSHER SUPERVISORY SERVICE of Rabbi David I. Sheinkopf (USA, EUROPE, ASIA)

Active many years in the field of kosher supervision, Rabbi Sheinkopf specializes in the use of different types of kosher gelatin and carmine. Also, the use of legumous extracts in Passover foods.

Author of "Gelatin in Jewish Law" (Bloch 1982) and "Issues in "Jewish Dietary Laws" (Ktav 1998), Rabbi Sheinkopf has written in depth studies of two of the most complex issues in Jewish dietary laws - the conversion of inedible animal parts into kosher food ingredients and the use by Ashkenazic as well as Sephardic Jews of legumous extracts (e.g., corn syrup) in Passover foods prepared before the festival.

These studies are updated in a new book by Rabbi Sheinkopf, "Expositions in Jewish Dietary Laws" (Ktav, 2010), which includes a new section affirming the kashrut of carmine, a widely used food coloring.

In each of his works, Rabbi Sheinkopf cites all available authoritative rabbinic sources that sanction on firm halakhic ground the use of the above ingredients in kosher foods.

Rabbi Sheinkopf was ordained at Mesivta Rabbi Chaim Berlin and holds a Ph.D. in Talmudic studies from Yeshiva University.
